Intelligent Pick-and-Place Automation with Vision-Guided Robotics
This custom built pick-and-place automation system integrates a high-precision 3D vision camera with a 6-axis robotic arm to intelligently inspect, identify, and place components in the correct sequence, orientation, and position.
Using advanced 3D vision technology and custom machine programming, the system analyzes each workpiece based on predefined parameters such as shape, dimensions, surface features, fonts, markings, or imagery. The camera scans the pick tray in real time, identifies the next required component, and calculates its exact position and orientation. Guided by this data, the robotic arm accurately retrieves the correct part and places it onto the designated tray in the required order.
Because the system relies on vision-guided positioning, components do not need to be pre-aligned or neatly arranged. Even if parts in the pick tray are jumbled, rotated, or off-center, the 3D camera precisely locates each item and directs the robotic arm to pick it with high repeatability. This significantly reduces manual pre-sorting, improves throughput, and minimizes human error.
The machine also incorporates a self-alignment jig, designed to automatically guide the workpiece into its correct position. This ensures all four corners of the cube are accurately aligned, an essential requirement for downstream processes. This feature demonstrates the system’s high level of precision, consistency, and attention to detail.
All jigs are designed and manufactured in-house by Tokimeku’s production team and can be fully customized to accommodate a wide range of part geometries, sizes, and materials. This flexibility allows the system to be tailored precisely to each customer’s application.
Once alignment is confirmed, the robotic arm retrieves the workpiece and places it onto the output tray. Placement orientation, sequence, and positioning are entirely configurable, leveraging the full capability of 6-axis robotic motion to meet specific production, assembly, or inspection requirements.
